About Palma

Often overlooked by visitors heading straight to the beaches and mountains, Palma, Majorca’s capital, is a cultural and historical delight not to be missed.

Dominating the city’s skyline, the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma, commonly known as La Seu, is a Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral situated on the seashore of Palma. Its rose window, with a diameter of nearly 14 meters, is the second-largest extant Gothic rose window, while its 44-meter high nave is the eighth highest in the world.

Palma’s old town is a labyrinth of narrow, winding streets, each turn revealing hidden squares, traditional Spanish cafes, and boutique shops. It’s a place where history comes alive, with remnants of the Roman citadel still visible amidst the vibrant life of the city. For a real treat, visit the Abaco Bar at midnight and enjoy a cocktail in tropical surroundings as flower petals are dropped from the central mezzanine

Palma’s seafront is lined by the Paseo Maritimo, a popular route for morning strolls and pre-dinner walks. The promenade stretches along the bay from the cathedral to Porto Pi, offering panoramic sea views, historic landmarks and the harbour brimming with yachts.

As the sun sets, Palma’s nightlife comes alive. The Paseo Maritimo is home to a variety of bars and clubs, offering everything from relaxed beachfront lounges to vibrant nightclubs. Whether you’re looking for a quiet drink with a view or a night of dancing, Palma has something to offer.
