Malaga Airport is located 8 km southwest of Málaga city centre, along the Costa del Sol. As the main hub for travellers to southern Spain, it provides convenient access to the city’s historic centre, nearby resorts, and the wider Andalusian region.

Events in Costa del Sol
Jerez Horse Fair (May 9th – 16th 2026)
Head south to the stunning city of Jerez next May and experience the Feria del Caballo, Spain’s most prestigious equestrian events. Expect Flamenco, horse parades, tapas stalls & music, attracting around 600,000 visitors each year.
San Isidro Pilgrimage – Nerja (15th May 2026)
Celebrate Andalusian tradition in Nerja, this festival includes a mass at El Salvador Church, a procession to the hermitage near the Caves of Nerja, and music, dancing, and picnics. Participants often wear traditional Andalusian attire, making it a great way to experience local culture and community spirit.
The Fuengirola Fair (October)
Normally held in the second week of October this fair is a celebration of Andalusian Culture, expect amusement rides, food stalls, music & dancing.
Estepona International Marathon (11th October 2026)
Estepona is preparing to host its first international marathon, an event that promises to attract runners from around the world.
Getting Around
Train
There is an excellent trainline (C1) that runs from Malaga City, past the airport, and down the coast to Fuengirola.
Airport to Torremolinos – approx. 10 mins
Airport to Benalmadena – approx. 17 mins
Airport to Fuengirola – approx. 35 mins
Taxi
Taxis are readily available in all resorts along the Costa del Sol. Your accommodation can usually call one on your behalf, and there are clearly signed taxi ranks in the town centres. At the airport taxi rank, all drivers display a table of fares, and all vehicles are fitted with meters.
Bus
The Costa del Sol has an extensive and reliable bus network linking Malaga, the airport, and all major coastal resorts. Services are operated by several companies, with routes running frequently throughout the day.
Car Hire
Car hire is widely available throughout the Costa del Sol, operating at Malaga Airport and in the main resorts. Drivers must hold a full valid driving licence and a credit card is usually required as a security deposit.
